DO WE DESERVE THIS LOVE?

There’s nothing nice in us that prompted God to pass on the privilege of calling Him as our Father. It is only because of His Covenant of Redemption made with the Trinity in eternity past that God has been showering His love on us.

Let me exemplify this with an incident from the Bible.

David had a best friend, Jonathan. In their younger days, they made a Covenant with each other to love and care for the other always. Years later, Jonathan died in the war. When news of his death arrived, Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth’s nurse tried to escape with the child. But they tripped and fell leaving the child lame for life.

Meanwhile, David became the King. After his ascension, David enquired if there was anybody left in Saul’s family whom he could show kindness to. A servant of Jonathan’s family called Ziba informed the king about Mephibosheth. David sent for Mephibosheth who came before the king trembling. But David quickly put him at ease and informed him that his family would be provided for and looked after by Ziba and his family. Not just that, Mephibosheth himself would eat from David’s table for the rest of his life! King David extended such mercy and kindness because of His Covenant with his best friend, Jonathan!

We are the recipients of God’s blessing today because of God’s Redemptive Covenant. King David searched and sought Jonathan’s kin. Our Father God searched for us because of His Covenant with the Trinity. All that we lost has been restored to us because of God’s everlasting love that began a very long time ago.
